Valentina Diaz: 25 year old, with fresh beautiful face, sweet, virginal woman; she lived and studied for all her life in a little town - Las salinas, at the border of Matamoros island. A woman who has a nickname "La yaya" took care of her. Valentina loves and idolizes her mother although she always considered Valentina and her brother Paquito as a bother. Valentina knows several functions, she is efficient and tenacious. Respected and proud. Valentina likes swimming, walking along the beach and fishing. But she works as an illegal boxer with Fernando Valerugo to earn some money. She works in his seafood restaurant near the beach in the afternoons. Valentina is a simple, but intelligent and loyal woman. In her teen age, she fall in love with Felipe Valerugo, stepson of a rich man Fernando Valerugo, whom she never saw. Valentina didn't know a bigger and intense love that she feels with Felipe. She is waiting for him and hopes for the possibility that he also loves her.

Luis Miguel Ariza: A 32 year old man, who was cared by a brother of his father since he was a child and he gave Luis Miguel all the affection of the family he never had. His origin was surrounded by a mystery that his uncle and a tutor never explained ot him, carrying his birth truth to the grave. However, the affect of his uncle gave him the strength of character and the nobility of his personality since he was a little child. He is active and sincere. He acts with naturality in any place, showing his education of a good man and chastity. Eager reader about several subjects, he also plays squash and other sports in his free time.

Luis Miguel graduated as a business administrator from a very prestigious university abroad. When he came back to the country, he got married with Magdalena Rios and they had a daughter, Vanessa. Magdalena disappeared under strange circumstances and they thought she died, though they never found her body. Due to this tragedy, Vanessa, who was 5 years old, had a trauma that the doctors couldn't treat her successfully. Magnalena never was an example of a mother and a wife and after his relation with her, Luis Miguel made his heart hard and he never believed in love again, but he really loves his daughter and she is the sentimental center of his life.

Luis Miguel starts working in the Fontana's company and his ability and professionalism call the attention of Mr. Danilo Fontana, who begins to give him responsable work and he climbs to higher positions in a few time. Danilo treats him like a son he never had and it finishes like a paternal affect relation more than a professional one. Luis Miguel meets Helena, Danilo's older daughter, a weak woman physically, with a heart disease and some years older than him, who falls in love with him sincerely. In spite of the age difference, they are getting more close to each other and Danilo likes this relationships. One of the reasons which keeps Luis Miguel near Helena is the relation she has with Vanessa and her ability to calm the attacks the girl has periodicaly.

Little by little, he is affective with her and they become a couple. They fix the wedding date and some days before, Luis Miguel has to travel to one of the ships of Danilo's company. He enjoys that time and celebrates his last days of a single man. In this travel, he meets Grazzia, a very young and beautiful woman and they have sexual relations, believing that it would be a fast fact, without much importance. Luis Miguel didn't happen to know that Grazzia is a sister of his fiancee and that a young woman planned everything to do harm to  Helena for envy. Grazzia pressures Luis Miguel and threats to tell Helena what happened. Luis Miguel tries to tell the truth to Helena, but she doesn't want to know his past "adventures". The wedding day arrives and Grazzia corners Luis Miguel, showing her hate to her sister. Grazzia always mocks of Helena with cruelty for her physic state and age. Grazzia makes so, that Helena finds Luis with her making love in her own wedding room. The impression Helena receives and the pain that she feels are very strong for her weak heart and she dies. Luis Miguel feels responsible and he will have to charge this fault in silence. He wants to go far away from Grazzia and Fontana's house but Grazzia lies him by saying she is expecting a baby.

Then he meets Valentina, without knowing that she is Helena, whose soul has transmigrated to the girl's body, in the same moment of Helena's death. Obviously, Luis Miguel doesn't know that the true intention of Helena in Valentina's body is to revenge him and Grazzia. He is falling in love with her since the time Valentina gets to Fortana's house to work as Vanessa's governess. The child seems to find the same peace in a just arrived person, like it happened with Helena. The days are passing and Luis Miguel fells more atracted by a strange woman, who disappears at night without giving a convincing explanation.

Grazzia is afraid to lose him when he finds she is not pregnant, so she feigns an accident, apparently caused by Valentina, and she "lose" her supposed baby. Finally, Grazzia makes Luis Miguel find that Valentina (Helena) has a double life, in which Felipe Valerugo takes part. Felipe is a boyfriend of Valentina. Luis Miguel becomes jealous and orders her to leave the house. He feels betrayed by a member of Valerugo's family, which is an enemy of Fontana's family after the mysterious incident when the mother of his daughter Vanessa disappeared, which is the source of Vanessa's trauma.

From that moment, there is a hard struggle inside Luis Miguel, who fall in love with a woman who broke his hard heart, without knowing that she was Helena, who also fall in love with him, after she has discovered that her sister Grazzia manipulated him.

 The rivalry with Felipe for Valentina will start dramatic actions because the two man will fight for her and for the antagonic positions, product of the struggle among the 2 families.

The events go ahead dizzyly towards the end of the story when Luis finds out what really happened to Helena and her re-birth in the body of another woman who is her own daughter.

An unexpected fact comes to complicate the story's end more, when it bacomes known that Felipe and Luis Miguel are the sons of the same father, a mysterious man who will appear in both their lives to give explaination of the past events that will join the ways of two brothers toward an unexpected happily end.
